Autoimmune Diseases

The prevalence of autoimmune disease has been increasing dramatically in the past few decades.  Autoimmune refers to a disease state in which the body is attacking its own tissue.  For example, in rheumatoid arthritis, the body is attacking the joint tissue.  Some common autoimmune conditions are Hoshimoto’s (a form of hypothyroidism), Rheumatoid arthritis, Celiac disease, psoriasis, Lupus, and Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Conventional treatments of these diseases focus on suppressing the immune system, and many patients come to me explaining that the side effects were actually worse than the disease itself.  Needless to say, these diseases are very complicated to treat and require a multifactorial approach.

When I treat a patient with an autoimmune condition, I focus on removing toxins, such as dietary allergens, heavy metals, environmental toxins, and nutritional excesses, as well as providing the body with the tools it needs to heal.  We will optimize your diet. We will work on handling stress and using targeted herbal medicine to help your body re-balance.  Some tests that I may do to help guide us are salivary hormones, food sensitivity, hair mineral and heavy metal analysis, GI analysis, and fatty acid composition analysis.

I have a passion for treating patients with autoimmune disease because I am so excited about all the possibilities to explore for treatment, rather than just taking steroids, for example.  It is wonderful to see these conditions not only get better, but many times go away when the body is put under the right conditions.  If you are as eager as I am to start treating your autoimmune condition, please contact me here so we can get started right away. I look forward to working with you!
